As a counselor who is passionate about helping people heal from trauma, I've witnessed the transformative power of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy over and over again. EMDR is an amazing process to facilitate and bare witness to! In my 25 years of supporting clients through trauma, I never tire of holding space while clients adapt new ways of thinking and experience exponential growth from therapy.

EMDR offers a unique approach, facilitating the processing of distressing memories through bilateral stimulation. This evidence-based therapy promotes adaptive resolution, enabling clients to reprocess traumatic experiences and diminish their emotional impact. EMDR is not merely working through one's traumatic experience(s), but empowers change which enables individuals to navigate the present with resilience through a phenomenon called post traumatic growth (PTG).

Post traumatic growth (PTG) is the healing psychological transformation individuals experience during and after working through adversity. PTG involves profound personal growth, enhanced resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose. Amidst trauma's aftermath, individuals find strength within themselves they never knew was there, along with newfound perspectives and an ability to navigate challenges in a transformational way due to PTG.

Through my commitment to helping people heal from trauma, I've seen people reclaim their lives with EMDR therapy, breaking free from the chains of trauma. Yes, EMDR is hard work - it is trauma therapy, after all. But as a counselor, I remain dedicated to creating a foundation to manage EMDR's healing process, creating a foundation that helps a person navigate the rough waters in a controlled manner. Think of EMDR like getting dental work done, with options to manage the discomfort. The expertise, compassion and support from a counselor can be likened to having a dental procedure done with Novocain by an well trained, experienced dentist who cares about their patients. Both options help manage the process and contain the level of pain and/or discomfort you experience.
